Mechanism of Action and Pharmacokinetics:
Testosterone, the main sexual androgen, is responsible for the development and maintenance of male secondary sexual characteristics, exerting important anabolic action.
The latter property contributes, above all, to accelerating the process of growth in puberty by stimulating bone growth and modulation of the welding process of the epiphysis of the long bones. In the normal man stimulates the activity of RNA polymerase enzyme and the specific RNA synthesis resulting in increased protein production Erythrocytes stimulates testosterone production because it facilitates the synthesis of the erythropoiesis stimulating factors.
NANDROLONE DECANOATE
Mechanism of Action and Pharmacokinetics:
Nandrolone decanoate is an injectable anabolic preparation. The pharmacologically active substance is nandrolone. The decanoate ester gives the preparation a duration of action approximately 3 weeks after injection.
Nandrolone is chemically related to the male hormone.Compared with testosterone, it has a pronounced anabolic and androgenic activity reduced. This has been demonstrated in animal bioassays and clarified by studies of receptor brinding. Low androgenicity of nandrolone is confirmed in clinical use.
Nandrolone decanoate has been shown to positively influence calcium metabolism and increase bone mass in osteoporosis. Spread in women with breast carcinoma has been reported to produce objective regressions for many months. Furthermore, nandrolone has a nitrogen-saving action.
This effect on protein metabolism was found in metabolic studies and is used therapeutically in conditions where a deficit of proteins such as during chronic debilitating diseases and after major surgery and severe trauma.
In these states, nandrolone serves as an adjunct to support specific therapies and dietary measures as well as parenteral nutrition.
At the recommended dose, the androgenic effects (eg virilization), are relatively rare. Nandrolone lacks the group C 17 alpha-Aqil which is associated with the occurrence of liver dysfunction and cholestasis. Nandrolone decanoate is slowly released from the injection site to the blood with a half life of 6 days. In blood, the ester is rapidly hydroly-
sed in nandrolone with a half life of one or less.
The half-life for the combined process of hydrolysis of nandrolone decanoate and the distribution and elimination of nandrolone is 4.3 hours.
Nandrolone is metabolized by the liver.
Substances 19- norandrosterone, 19 and 19 norepiandrosterona noretocolanolona have been identified as metabolites in the urine. It is not known whether these metabolites have a pharmacological action.
